1 in 33 women will die of breast cancer
1 in 3 women will die of heart disease
70% don’t know they are sick
80% of heart disease is preventable
Heart disease in women has been routinely misdiagnosed and undertreated, because of unconscious bias that suggested heart disease was a “man’s disease.” Adesso was launched to empower women to live healthy, vital lives through comprehensive heart-centered prevention and wellness.
I come from a family of doctors. A lot of doctors… I think 20 of us at last count, since my grandfather became the first doctor in the family.
I recall a day a long time ago, standing on the corner of Fifth Avenue in NYC, talking to my father on the phone about my epiphany. I had my true “Ah Ha” moment.
“Dad, I know what makes me different. I know my calling,” I said.
I’m sure my dad, himself a successful oncologist, was confused, because I was already a preventive cardiologist creating one of the first women’s heart prevention programs in the country. But I knew my mission was more than that.
“My purpose in life is to change health care for women. For ALL women. To educate and empower them to take care of their hearts and get the care they need and deserve. No matter who they are and where they live.”
I’ve not looked back since nor have I ever doubted my purpose. Because every woman deserves to live and live well. We don’t need “the cure” for heart disease. We already have it, at least 80 percent of the time. We simply need to get the cure to women before they are sick. We need to empower them to reach optimum health.
That mission finally brought us all here: Adesso. Working together, growing across the country and the world, to forever change the story of heart disease and women.
I’m so glad you’re here. I can’t do it without you. Join me, starting Adesso, Now! Let’s live from the heart together.
